In practice, combined treatments seem to be becoming more popular. And sometimes it's the case that 16 weeks (the period over which the gastric balloon stays in your stomach) isn't quite long enough to adapt to a new lifestyle. In such cases, switching to medication can help. The gastric balloon then serves as a kick-start, enabling you to lose weight in a short space of time. At some point medication is administered to lose more weight or to keep the weight off. This can be done whilst the balloon is still in the stomach, after it has left the body or thereafter. It will all depend on your needs.
Experience has shown that combining an Allurion gastric balloon with medication tends to produce a better result, namely greater, sustainable weight loss. We've already amassed in excess of three years' experience combining gastric balloon treatment with medication.¹
