A fit grandmother

Jeannette had stomach reduction surgery in 2005. It helped – the weight just fell off. At least 60 kilos! Unfortunately she put some weight back on after a distressing situation. Now she's managing to lose those extra kilos again with an injector pen.

A fit grandmother

She's seven weeks into her treatment at NOK Clinics and delighted already. Of the 20 kilos that she has put on in the years since her stomach reduction surgery, Jeannette has already lost 12. She's happy again, gets involved in everything and feels great. The fact that she's going to be a grandmother for the first time soon is giving her even more reason to be fit enough for babysitting duties when the time comes and to get stuck in to plenty of fun activities.

Tired all the time

Jeannette piled on the pounds from the age of 18 onwards. And she kept gaining weight after her three children were born. 'It got to the point where I was having to ask my kids to fetch things from upstairs for me because I wasn't able to get up the stairs myself. I remember my two-year-old sitting on the floor playing and me falling asleep on the sofa. I was so tired, everything was too hard.' Jeannette ended up staying indoors more and lost her desire to do things that had always made her happy before. The housework got neglected too.

The stomach reduction surgery

'I couldn't go on like that. I tried diet after diet, and although I was managing to lose some weight, I'd regain that and more.' She did extensive research and decided to undergo a stomach reduction procedure. That's when the weight fell off rapidly. She was losing a couple of kilos every week, and before she knew it, she had gone from 160 kilos down to 100 kilos. 'Then I stopped losing weight, but that wasn't such a bad thing. 100 kilos is still on the heavy side, but I was able to do everything again. I didn't have to sleep so much anymore, I was properly active and enjoying life again.'

Snacking

A sad event led to her ending up being prescribed antidepressants. Jeannette piled on the pounds as a result, but that wasn't the only problem. 'Obviously my stomach is smaller now and I can't eat as much as I could before, but when I felt hungry I'd just grab something unhealthy. I'd graze. I'd never eaten much sweets, for example, but now I couldn't get enough of them. It wasn't like I was stuffing my face, but when I ate, it was the wrong foods packed with calories. So I put on weight again.'

Medication using the injector pen

Jeannette looked for new potential solutions and decided to sign up for treatment at NOK Clinics. 'I didn't have any hesitation about seeking help again. I thought to myself: I don't want to end up in a wheelchair in a couple of years. I needed to save up for a while, but I'm glad that I went ahead with it. Now I'm seven weeks in and I still can't believe it. My cravings are gone. I'm even having to consciously think about eating to make sure I'm getting all the nutrition I need.'

12 kilos lost in seven weeks

The weighing scales prove that the process is working well. Jeannette has already lost 12 kilos in the first seven weeks of her treatment. 'So far the weight loss has been going so well that I haven't had to get in touch with my coach. The appointments we've had so far have just been about catching up and celebrating my successes. But it's still great to know that I could pick up the phone any time if things start going backwards. Having someone to fall back on. And so for anyone who's struggling with excess weight, I'd recommend checking out whether this treatment might be something for you. I really feel that it's been a total transformation and that's fantastic, isn't it?!'
